A better way for abused children

One out of every four girls and one out of every six boys will experience sexual abuse by age 18. All too often, the trauma is multiplied as victims tell their story repeatedly throughout the investigation and prosecution.

Care House of Macomb County offers kids a better way.

The nonprofit’s core service is a coordinated interview of child victims of sexual and physical abuse. All professionals involved in the investigation gather at Care House to observe via closed circuit television as a trained interviewer meets with the child in another room. This eliminates the need for multiple interviews and spares the child from reliving the trauma over and over again.

Care House also offers support and education to child victims and their families. Since opening in 1996, the organization has provided services to more than 7,800 families and interviewed over 5,800 children. All services are provided free of charge.

In celebration of our 100th anniversary, First State Bank applauds the organizations that make a difference in our community. We’re honored to give $5,000 to Care House, our fourth of six centennial donations in 2017. Previous honorees were the Macomb Charitable Foundation, Friends of Foster Kids and KnowResolve.
