Scholarships

First State Bank is honored to offer scholarship and grant opportunities to the people and businesses in our communities.

SCHOLARSHIPS:

Macomb Community College Foundation/First State Bank Scholarship for Foster Students
Established in 2017 to assist foster students with their education goals at Macomb Community College. This scholarship is for students at Macomb Community College who have been through the foster care system at any point in their life and helps to offset the cost of educational expenses. Students must be admitted to Macomb Community College with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher from high school or Macomb Community College. Macomb Student Immediate Relief Fund
Many of today's students are facing economic challenges that threaten their ability to finish college. In response, Macomb Community College has stepped up its efforts to assist students who are not only struggling to pay for tuition, but also to feed their families, pay their utilities, fix their cars or address other immediate financial crises.

Because of donors, who may have struggled financially as college students themselves, they have been able to establish funds to help in case of these types of emergencies. The Macomb Student Immediate Relief Fund helps students overcome life's speedbumps without abandoning college and their dreams, which many facing financial emergencies often do and usually never return. Students facing hardships should contact Macomb’s Student Options for Success (SOS) office right away:  SOS@macomb.edu or 586.447.8609.

GRANTS:

Open Door
The Open Door Grant program seeks to eliminate key barriers to home ownership with assistance for the down payment and closing costs via a one-time grant that is applied to a First State Bank mortgage loan. The program also aims to improve the accessibility of home loans in specially designated neighborhoods within Macomb, Oakland, and St. Clair counties.

A grant of up to $7,500 will be provided for each qualifying borrower based on income (Low/Moderate as defined by HUD classification for the region) and purchase property location. Grants will be applied to the down payment and closing costs. If any qualifying funds are remaining, they will be applied to the principal balance.

Elevate Small Business Grant
First State Bank believes that when businesses thrive, our communities thrive. That’s why we’ve partnered with FHLBank Indianapolis to invest in qualifying small businesses. The Elevate small business grant assists the growth and development of small businesses in Indiana and Michigan. Small businesses can use the grant money (up to $20,000) for capital expenditures, workforce training, working capital, or a variety of other needs as outlined in the Elevate Program Guide.
