Providing hope and homes

What kind of impact can safe shelter make? For many families, access to an affordable mortgage and a safe home can make a significant difference.

“We are providing a reasonable mortgage to families and giving children a backyard and opportunities to feel safe,” says Helen Hicks, president and CEO of Macomb Habitat for Humanity. “Habitat for Humanity provides hope to those who may have given up, helping families develop strength, stability and self-reliance.”

In addition to providing safe and affordable housing, the Macomb-based nonprofit sponsors other programs for low-income people. A Brush with Kindness provides exterior home repairs for Veterans and seniors. There’s also a financial literacy program that teaches people to manage their money more effectively and improve their credit.

First State Bank commends Macomb Habitat for Humanity for providing safe shelter, hope and a sense of community. To support the organization’s work, we’re donating $5,000, the second of six planned gifts to Macomb County nonprofits this year.

Thank you for making a difference!
